HOMEOWNERSHIP

The Homeownership: Consumer, Credit, and Financial Protection Program started in July of 2001 with the purpose of preparing Housing tenants and moderate-income Tribal members for homeownership.The Homeownership Program focus is financial education first. With financial wellness you can achieve homeownership, invest in the future and build a healthy nation and people to better control their own destiny. Achieving homeownership can be a complex process and the Homeownership Program is here to assist.

FINANCIAL SUCCESS EDUCATION

Wapayatat Education Program provides classes to the community working towards financial wellness and homeownership. Open to all CTUIR Tribal members and their families, plus employees of CTUIR, Wildhorse Resort & Casino, Yellowhawk Clinic, and Cayuse Holdings.

Financial Success Education Series: a series of classes focusing on financial education using Oweesta’s Building Native Communities for Families curriculum. The classes take participants through the Circle of Life to understand the concept of planning and saving, developing a spending plan to handle money, understanding credit reports, and how lenders use credit to make loan decisions.  We also cover information on consumer protection acts and laws.


Homebuyer Workshop: Provide the foundation of the homeownership journey, starting with understanding the advantages and disadvantages of becoming a homebuyer. We will guide participants through the mortgage process with understanding how to submit a loan application for pre-approval and determining “how much home they can afford” based on debt-to-income ratios.  Participants are introduced to partners involved including appraisers, home inspectors, realtors, and closing agents.  We use NAIHC’s Pathways Homes, a Native Homeownership Guide.

FINANCIAL COACHING

Financial coaching is all about you. It is about understanding your current situation and developing a custom plan to help you win with money. Whether you’re burdened by debt, need help with big money goals, or just want to get on the same page with your spouse, we’re here to walk with you as you make real progress with your finances.

HOMEOWNERSHIP COUNSELING

One-on-one counseling in connection to exploring your option of purchasing a home. Housing counseling that covers: the decision to purchase a home, the selection and purchase of a home, issues arising during or affecting the period of ownership of a home (including financing, refinancing, default, and foreclosure, and other financial decisions), and the sale or other disposition of a home.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

These match-saving programs are open to CTUIR tribal members to assist with saving and asset-building goals for homeownership.


Umatilla Saves Program provides assistance with down payment and closing costs associated with a mortgage to purchase or for construction of a home within Umatilla and Union Counties.


Umatilla Builds Site Development Program offers financial assistance with developing a home site within the current boundaries of the Umatilla Reservation.

THE NIXYÁAWII NEIGHBORHOOD

The Umatilla Indian Reservation is the homeland of the Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla Tribes. The new Nixyáawii neighborhood is an opportunity for CTUIR Tribal Members to build, live, and enjoy their own homes in their own community. Nixyáawii will sit on approximately twelve acres and will be located southeast of the Nixyáawii Education Center and Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center. Fifty shovel-ready residential lots will be available.
